XCOM 2 SWITCH REVIEW PC
War of the Chosen, moreover, it does not represent a simple extension of the game, but introduces enough novelty to be considered a completely separate chapter, including new bosses, always lurking, which you will have to defeat if you want to progress through the story with new weapons and technologies.įrom a technical point of view, although it is not a masterpiece of billions of polygons and ray tracing, it is quite demanding, to the point that graphics for the Switch version are basic, probably on a par with a PC version with a low quality setting. And to deal with all this, among the soldiers (to whom I always love to give the appearance and the name of friends and relatives, only to feel bad when I lose one) new classes have been introduced that make the gameplay more varied.

Some missions will be a race against time (turns), in which you have to reach a goal, or if you prefer, and you are good enough, eliminate all threats. For example, you will experience the cloaking mode, which allows you to distribute your soldiers on the battlefield before the dances begin, so as to better coordinate the offensives, without discovering the battlefield square by square, with the movement of your soldiers and the dissipation of the game fog. If you have only played the first (so to speak) XCOM: Enemy Unknown (2012), this is the right opportunity to discover the many innovations introduced. We are talking about a 2016 game, which by its nature does not seem to have aged even a week. XCOM is a continuous game of chess, where there are unhappy moves, which you can, with a little effort, recover, and wrong moves that will make you take the road to checkmate, without the possibility of revenge.Īs for the Collection, you won't have many chapters from the past, bensì XCOM 2 e XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. Every choice counts, every mission, every technology researched before another, every bullet that misses the target. What also changes is the level of frustration that XCOM is able to create in the player. But it is not as trivial as it may seem, because each chapter introduces many small and big news, able to avoid the Deja-Vu effect, to push you to fully savor the new game.

No matter what chapter you are playing, this is the approach of every game in the XCOM series. Growth in XCOM is linear: fight, improve, fight, improve and fight, and improve, until you are strong enough to lead the final assaults that will lead you to victory. You will have to lead some soldiers in combat against different alien races, develop a base, research technologies and improve equipment. Essentially we are faced with a turn-based strategy, where you will command a human resistance against the alien invasion. In short, the arrival of XCOM 2 Collection on Switch, you will have understood it, is definitely good news for anyone who loves this series, while for all the others, those who have never had the honor of playing this title, that's what it is.

I did it on the second day of the trip, and then spent the remaining three weeks looking forward to getting home to play it. I remember that I bought the second chapter, Terror from the Deep, during a study holiday in London, in a Virgin Store in Piccadilly Circus.
XCOM 2 SWITCH REVIEW SERIES
The writer is a fan of the series from the very first title, which came out in Europe under the name of UFO: Enemy Unknown it was 1994, I was a teenager, with a lot of thoughtless nights spent hunting aliens, building bases, recruiting soldiers and improving weapons and technologies. XCOM is arguably the best turn-based strategy of recent years, and certainly the best for all those who love the sci-fi genre and settings, made of aliens and futuristic weapon. XCOM 2 Collection is, among these titles, probably the most difficult to appreciate, both in terms of the type of game itself, and for porting to Nintendo consoles which must not have been easy at all. With XCOM 2 Collection, together with Bioshock and Borderlands, 2K Games has not only given new life to some of the most beautiful video games of recent years, but has offered an opportunity to all Nintendo Switch owners who have never played these titles to recover some milestones of the video game industry.
